ETH Zurich, Atomic Force F&E and Asylum Research are pleased to sponsor the 3rd Euro AFM Forum and Workshop.

Scope of the Forum

The Euro AFM Forum is organized for AFM scientists to share and exchange their cutting-edge research in both materials and life science disciplines. The instrument workshops offer in-depth knowledge about advanced AFM technologies combined with hands-on instructions at the AFM. Experienced and novice scientists using AFM technology will find the Forum very helpful to increase their knowledge about this exciting measurement method.

Call For Abstracts

The Forum will be accepting submissions for both lectures and posters. Abstracts may be submitted online at the conference website beginning June 6. Deadline for submission is July 18. Acceptance for abstract submissions will be announced July 25. Prizes will be awarded for the three top posters.

Image Contest

Enter your best AFM image in the Euro AFM Forum 2011image contest. The best AFM image that represents innovative science and perfect use of the AFM will be awarded an iPad! Please submit your images (jpg, TIFF, png) with a brief description via email to conference@atomicforce.de (max 50 MB accepted).

Instrument Workshop

Applications Scientists will instruct small groups of researchers on a variety of AFM topics. Instruction will be done on the MFP-3D™ AFM as well as the Cypher™ AFM. Attendees may sign up for two workshop topics.

Tentative Topics Include:

  • Nano indentation
  • Piezo Force Microscopy
  • Electrochemical Strain Microscopy
  • Electrical Characterization
  • Force Spectroscopy
  • Force Mapping
  • Atomic resolution / fast scanning with Cypher
  • Imaging in liquids

Travel

By air: Zurich airport is well connected to major cities around the world with direct flights. From the airport, take SBahn no. 2 (direction "Ziegelbrücke") or no. 16 (direction "Meilen") to Bahnhof "Oerlikon", from Bahnhof "Oerlikon Nord" by bus no. 80 (direction "Triemlispital") to the bus stop "ETH Hönggerberg". Journey time: about 20 minutes. You need a valid ticket for 3 zones.

By train: From Zurich main station, take S-Bahn (lines 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 14, 16) to Bahnhof "Oerlikon"; bus no. 80 (direction "Triemlispital") from Bahnhof "Oerlikon Nord" to bus stop "ETH Hönggerberg". Journey time: about 25 minutes. You need a valid ticket for zone no. 10 ("Stadt Zürich").

By car: For GPS navigation use: ETH Hönggerberg-Science City, 8093 Zurich, Wolfgang-Pauli Strasse 10, Switzerland
